Local Issues

Good morning. The purpose of the email to bring information regarding the Stafford County School Board’s Revised Proposed New Policy #2420, i.e., the Gendered Identity and Expression policy amendment proposal.

Yesterday, the School Board Agenda was posted for the January 8, 2019 meeting. The amendment proposal is listed under Information Items. With respect to the future procedure of this proposal, Dr. Scott Kizner, Superintendent, made the following statement:

Based upon input from the Board and members of the community, the superintendent has revised the proposed new policy. It is being presented to the Board for further discussion. The revised draft is attached below. The superintendent will continue to meet with stakeholder groups for input on the proposed policy and will keep the Board informed of the feedback that he is receiving. The Board will not be voting on this matter today. It is being brought to the Board solely for continued discussion.

Important note from Dr. Kizner regarding the proposed new policy on gender identity and expression:  The proposed new policy 2420 has recently been revised to reflect the feedback received during the past several weeks from both the school board and members of the community. I am still soliciting further comments at this time. To allow me to complete the stakeholder input process, I will not be asking the school board to take action on the proposed policy at their January 8 or 22 board meetings.

The revised proposal is available here.

The good news is that we have a little time to have our voices to be heard on this issue. I STRONGLY URGE everyone to be heard on this very important issue. Show up to the meetings, speak at the meetings, send emails…..

To help facilitate this, the published School Board meeting dates and times for 2019 are available here.

Furthermore, here is the contact information for Dr. Scott Kizner, Superintendent and the School Board:
